Frankfurt Christmas Market-Discover it
One Day Discovering Frankfurt Christmas Market
At the Hauptwache, you’ll discover a one-of-a-kind setting for the Christmas stalls. The market, with its charming stretch from the square at the Hauptwache down to the quayside of the river, offers a picturesque walk through all the markets until you reach the Rhine.
The Zeil is the most prominent shopping street, opposite the Hauptwache, where you will find many stores to shop.
One of the most exciting aspects of the Christmas Market is its diverse selection of traditional festive foods and drinks. From the famous Bethmännchen to the warming hot apple wine, there’s a rich variety to delight every palate.
The Christmas Market, with its roots dating back to 1393, holds the prestigious title of being the oldest in Germany, a testament to its enduring charm and tradition.

Discover The Christmas Markets in Frankfurt
Christmas markets are in big squares, tucked into courtyards, or spread along city streets.
We just stumbled upon many markets while walking in Frankfurt.
Unlike other holiday events, they’re not confined to one area.
Römerberg:
These spots provide a picturesque setting with significant buildings like the Römer, Frankfurt Cathedral, and St. Paul’s Church, which gives the market a unique atmosphere. The main square in Frankfurt, Romerberg, is where all the holiday magic happens! You can’t miss the famous Frankfurt Christmas Tree and the charming old-fashioned carousel on the square.
Paulsplatz:
St. Paul’s Square in Frankfurt is the largest in the city center and features even more market stalls than Romerberg. With several food options and shopping opportunities, strolling through Paulsplatz is a must.
Hauptwache:
Located just steps from Frankfurt’s modern shopping street, the Zeil, Hauptwache Christmas Stalls may lure you into some holiday retail therapy. Tucked beneath the bell tower of St. Catherine’s Church
Friedrich-Stolze-Platz:
The “Pink Christmas Market” at Friedrich-Stoltze-Platz is relatively small…and is decorated in all things…pink! The contemporary market features stalls selling hand-crafted wares.
More to Explore
Mainkai:
Mainkai is part of the main promenade along the river, and it offers exceptional views of the river, bridges, and skyscrapers. Even on a foggy day, I was surprised to see river cruise boats, but I still managed to take some decent pictures!
Roßmarkt:
Roßmarkt is conveniently located near several attractions. You can explore the historic Goethe House, visit the Gutenberg-Denkmal, or check out the Outfitters shopping mall.
Visit the Roßmarkt Cathedral:
The Roßmarkt Cathedral is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. It is a beautiful example of Gothic architecture and a great place to visit for sightseeing.
Neue Kräme:
Neue Kräme, one of the main shopping streets in the densely built-up Old Town of Frankfurt, offers a unique shopping experience. While it is home to some well-known specialty stores, the proportion of chain stores here is relatively low, making it a haven for those seeking something different.
Neue Kräme is a street that transforms with the seasons. In summer, part of the square is occupied by street cafes, creating a lively and inviting atmosphere. In winter, the Frankfurt Christmas market stretches along the entire length of Neuer Kräme, from Römerberg via Paulsplatz to Liebfrauenberg, offering a festive and charming experience.
The 100-foot-tall Christmas Tree in front of Romer (City Hall) is an iconic symbol of Christmas in Frankfurt, Germany. However, a few spots provide an opportunity if you want to take a picture with the entire tree minus a sea of other people. You have to look for them, lol. Best of luck!
