A Day Trip To Doi Inthanon Park In Thailand

Experience the beauty of Doi Inthanon National Park on a day trip.

Doi Inthanon is one of the most popular national parks in Thailand. It is famous for its waterfalls, few trails, remote villages, viewpoints, sunrise/sunset watching, birdwatching and the all-year-round cold weather at higher elevations. The main park entrance is about 70 km southwest of Chiang Mai.

Surrounding this granite massif is a 1000-sq-km national park, enveloped in an impenetrable curtain of jungle.

On the day of our visit, the heat in Chiang Mai was too much, so a trip to Doi Inthanon for the day was a relief for a while.

The park is enormous; we visited only a few places on our day trip.

Entrance fee for Doi Inthanon National Park: 300 THB ($11.17can.) + 20 THB motorbike (+30 THB car ($1.12can.)

Mae Ya Waterfall

While driving to Mae Ya Waterfall, we can see the peak of Doi Inthanon Mountain.

Mae Ya Waterfall (Nam tok Mae Ya) was one of the better waterfalls we saw in Thailand; it seems to be the pride of Chiang Mai province. People often say it is the most beautiful waterfall in Thailand!

I was surprised by the size, which they say is about 260m tall and up to 100m wide (though I’ve seen more modest claims that its height was more like 40m).

The walk in the woods is peaceful and a bit cooler than in town.

When we arrived, it was mid-morning, so not many people were in the woods, which was perfect for taking pictures.

The Royal Twin Pagodas

The Royal Twin Pagodas is one of northern Thailand’s most prominent and prestigious landmarks and is well worth a visit.

The first of the chedis, Naphamethanidon, is one to honour the 60th birthday anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The second chedi, Naphaphone Phumi Siri, is to honour the 60th birthday anniversary of Queen Sirikit.

The Royal Twin Pagodas are beautiful, situated on the top of a panoramic mountain with stunning views over the jungle mountains of north Thailand.

There is a viewpoint over the park’s west side, a popular place to see the sunset. The grounds are beautiful to walk around.

The entrance cost 100 Baht ($3.75 can.) per person.

Good View, The Whimsical Treehouse

We stopped for lunch at the tree house.

It offered a unique and serene experience for nature lovers. The food was excellent also.

It’s a magical place within an unspoiled mountain village surrounded by dense forests. The view was amazing.

Furthermore, you can stay there overnight if you wish. It is a unique experience.

This treehouse hotel offers a retreat away from the ordinary hustle and bustle and guarantees an escape into wonderful nature.
