Bruges is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. It’s famous for its canals and gothic facades.

Our two-day visit to Bruges was nothing short of magical, confirming the city’s enchanting allure.

It is an excellent place to shop for chocolate and a chocolate museum!
Bruges’ crochet lace, once renowned in the 16th century, still weaves a thread of history through the city. The sight of ladies crafting lace is a living testament to Bruges’ past, and the shops are a treasure trove of this delicate art.
The city center is closed to cars. It’s an accessible city to explore on foot. Alternatively, since this is a tourist town, you’ll find horse-drawn carriages to take you around the cobblestone streets. You’ll be tempted by all the stores all over town and many museums to visit.

We walk along the city ramparts to find four ancient windmills – all that remains of 25 to 30 such giants that once dotted the town walls.

From the hotel, a two-minute walk to the Minnewater Bridge, which sits above the Lake of Love. Head towards the verdant Minnewater Park to view the Castle de la Faille with its soaring spires.

Our Hotel was right beside the train station and within walking distance of the town. They also have a free shuttle bus. that you can use to go downtown.
Most of Brussels’ tourist attractions are within walking distance, so it’s essential to book somewhere near the heart of the action.
**This is a tiny room with a shower and sink!! I am not claustrophobic, but two days was enough for me.

How to get to Bruges, Belgium?
Upon arrival at the airport, we boarded a train that took us directly to Bruges. The train journey from Brussels Airport to Bruges takes approximately one and a half hours.
Once we arrived at the train station in Bruges, it was a 15- 20-minute walk to our hotel and the city center.
We also discovered a complimentary shuttle bus outside the train station that transported us to Markt Square.
How to get around in Bruges?
Walking is the best option for exploring Bruges and discovering as many hidden alleys and special places as possible.
Bruges isn’t a big city, so it’s perfectly possible to see all the sights on foot.
If walking isn’t your thing, there are alternative ways to explore Bruges, such as taking a boat ride on the canals or a carriage ride through the charming cobbled streets.
Additionally, you can take the bus, which conveniently drops you off at various locations along its route.
When is the best time to travel to Bruges?
Belgium is a country with mild winters and summers. There are no extreme weather conditions.
However, I recommend visiting Bruges between April and October if you want good weather.
Of course, there is always the chance that it will rain during those months as well. It’s still Belgium.
We encountered rain only the first morning there. Temperature between 15-18 Celsius.
End of September, the weather was beautiful and warm, with occasional rainfall.

*Bought a SIM card for 15 euros (5GB). If you don’t use it all, it is good for another trip.
**Two days in Bruges was enough for hitting all the main sights of the city. Add many more days if you want to see all the museums.
Souvenir
When shopping for chocolate or souvenirs, it is best to buy them while walking. Otherwise, it may be challenging to find your way back or navigate the streets later.
It’s also a good idea to bring an umbrella with you, even on sunny days, just in case it rains unexpectedly.
