Travel To Siena / San Gimignano, Italy
We are heading to Siena and San Gimignano in Tuscany for our fourth day.
If you want a unique and unforgettable experience, travelling to Siena and San Gimignano in Tuscany is necessary. These charming towns are rich in history, culture, and breathtaking views, making them perfect for anyone seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. With its rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves, Tuscany is truly a sight to behold.
Siena
Siena, nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Italy, is a living testament to history. Its medieval architecture dates back to the 13th century.
This enchanting city has meticulously preserved its unique heritage, making it a destination not to be missed.
Moreover, Siena is home to the world’s oldest bank, Monte dei Paschi di Siena, a testament to the city’s enduring institutions, which have operated continuously since 1472. To explore the surrounding areas, consider visiting San Gimignano, renowned for its towering structures, often referred to as the ‘medieval Manhattan.’
You will take the installed escalators from the parking lot to the top of the hill, which takes the sting out of walking up the slope. They will take you up close to Porta Camollia.
From there, if you turn left, you can walk in a more or less straight line to Piazza del Campo, the main square at the heart of the city.
♥The walk down was just under a mile.
-Siena Cathedral
Stroll through the stunning Palio City cathedral, featuring a breathtaking collection of artworks.
The cathedral’s striking two-tone black-and-white design pays homage to the colours of Siena’s coat of arms. Known as the Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta, Siena Cathedral is a remarkable example of Romanesque and Gothic architecture and is considered one of Italy’s most significant churches.
The façade is made of white marble, with decorative accents in red Siena marble and Prato serpentine.

San Gimignano
San Gimignano is a small, walled medieval hill town in the province of Siena, Tuscany, north-central Italy. Known as the Town of Fine Towers, it is famous for its medieval architecture. Unique in preserving about a dozen tower houses, San Gimignano’s hilltop setting and encircling walls form “an unforgettable skyline.”
Within the walls, the well-preserved buildings feature notable examples of Romanesque and Gothic architecture, as well as outstanding secular buildings and churches.
Historic Centre of San Gimignano - Piazza della Cisterna
Piazza della Cisterna is a piazza in San Gimignano, Italy. It is triangular with a slight natural slope and is connected to the nearby Piazza del Duomo by an open passage.
The pavement is brick, and houses and medieval towers surround the piazza.
Piazza della Cisterna, the heart of the medieval city, was named after the travertine fountain.

Our next sleep over in Pisa
Pisa Tower Plaza is just a 15-minute walk from Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa. Although it’s far away, you can see the Leaning Tower from the parking lot.
The location is modern, clean, and has air conditioning. Additionally, complimentary Wi-Fi and friendly staff are available.
I’m looking forward to seeing the Pisa Tower tomorrow.
Note:
We made a stop in Siena to visit the striking black-and-white cathedral. While the church was impressive, the town itself felt overly commercialized and, overall, a bit of a letdown.
It’s mind-blowing that a place could have so much history behind it. Absolutely stunning.
San Gimignano was my favorite village in Tuscany. It was charming and the people were so friendly.
So many beautifull village in Tuscany,I love it
