Travel To Siena / San Gimignano, Italy
We are heading to Siena and San Gimignano, Tuscany for our fourth day.
If you want a unique and unforgettable experience, travelling to Siena and Gimignano in Tuscany is necessary. These charming towns are packed with history, culture, and breathtaking views, making them perfect for anyone who wants to take a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. With its rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves, Tuscany is truly a sight to behold.
Siena
Siena, nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Italy, is a living testament to history. Its medieval architecture dates back to 1300.
This enchanting city has meticulously preserved its one-of-a-kind heritage, making it a destination that simply cannot be missed.
Moreover, Siena is home to the world’s oldest bank, the Monte dei Paschi Bank, a testament to the city’s enduring institutions, which have operated since 1472. To explore the surrounding areas, you can visit San Gimignano, known for its towering structures, often called the ‘medieval Manhattan.’
You will take the installed escalators from the parking lot to the top of the hill, which takes the sting out of walking up the slope. They will take you up close to Porta Camollia.
From there, if you turn left, you can walk in a more or less straight line to Piazza del Campo, the main square at the heart of the city.
♥The walk down was just under a mile.
Siena Cathedral
Stroll through the stunning cathedral of Palio City, which has a breathtaking collection of rich artworks.
The cathedral’s striking two-tone black and white design pays homage to the colours of the city of Siena’s coat of arms. Known as the Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta, Siena Cathedral is a remarkable example of Romanesque-Gothic architecture and is considered one of the most significant churches in Italy.
The façade is made of white marble with decorative accents in red Siena marble and serpentine marble from Prato.

San Gimignano
San Gimignano is a small, walled medieval hill town in Siena, Tuscany, north-central Italy. Known as the Town of Fine Towers, it is famous for its medieval architecture. Unique in preserving about a dozen tower houses, San Gimignano’s hilltop setting and encircling walls form “an unforgettable skyline.”
Within the walls, the well-preserved buildings include notable examples of Romanesque and Gothic architecture and outstanding examples of secular buildings and churches.
Historic Centre of San Gimignano - Piazza della Cisterna
Piazza della Cisterna is a piazza in San Gimignano, Italy. It is triangular with a slight natural slope and is connected to the nearby Piazza del Duomo by an open passage.
The pavement is brick, and houses and medieval towers surround the piazza.
Piazza della Cisterna, the heart of the medieval city, was named after the travertine fountain.

Our next sleep over in Pisa
Pisa Tower Plaza is just a 15-minute walk from Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa. Although it’s far away, you can see the Leaning Tower from the parking lot.
The location is modern, clean, and has air conditioning. Additionally, complimentary Wi-Fi and friendly staff are available.
I’m looking forward to seeing the Pisa Tower tomorrow.
Note
We stopped in Siena to see the white and black church. However, overall, Siena was disappointing as it felt overly commercialized.
It’s mind-blowing that a place could have so much history behind it. Absolutely stunning.
San Gimignano was my favorite village in Tuscany. It was charming and the people were so friendly.
